How To Start Your Own Small Business
From the desk of Bob Macek
A small business may be defined as a existing business with fewer than 100 employees, is independently owned and operated, and is not dominant in its industry. This article discusses starting a small business in a slow but safe manner.
Having a regular payroll check from a steady job can give one a secure feeling especially if one has a wife and children to support. It does not seem to make a big difference even if your unhappy in your present job, giving it up is frightening. There is an alternative to walking away from your job security and still being your own boss.
Your present employer could be the solution to your problems. If you were planing to start a small business using skills similar to what you now use, you might discuss a working arrangement with your employer for a portion of your time for a year. This would provide you a start while finding other clients and still meeting your financial obligations.
There are several reasons why this might appeal to your current employer.
Assuming you have a good relationship with your employer there's a reasonable possibility he would not want to lose you. And besides it takes time, money and energy to train a person for your job and get them up to speed in the company.
There is also the time and expense involved in finding someone to replace you. This could take months of gathering resumes and interviewing prospects. Also, there's no guarantee of getting the right person who will fit in and stay on. During this time you could be working part time and be available to train the replacement.
Another reason your employer might consider your proposal is your understanding of the company, its clients and services. You can provide the services the clients need and you know what is required.
Having you continue to work, and without the expenses that often come with termination, may well be a much better arrangement for your employer, the company and you. Everybody wins!
If you are truly interested in starting and running your own small business this plan can may well provide you the security you require for your initial startup year. What better way to get up and running in your own small business?
